Pros and Cons of Studying Overseas

Millions of students dream of studying overseas to obtain the best education and life experience. However, planning to study abroad is not that easy because of many reason such as financial support. There are pros and cons in studying overseas. This essay will look at both the advantages and disadvantages.

Student gains new experiences

The first advantage is the student will gains new experiences when they pursuing the education in oversea. They will become independence and responsibility before stepping into the career world. Students have to gauge within their comfort zone and learn a lot of different skills. As an example, he learns time and financial management, he budgets and lives within his allowance.

Reputable Universities

The second advantage is the numerous courses available in many reputable universities. There is array of courses available in different country and different university that match student’s skills and expectations. There is no doubt that students will have more career opportunity if they study in overseas. As an example, if he graduates from famous school such as Harvard or Cambridge, he would be headhunted and offered a highly lucrative position.

Disadvantages of Studying Overseas

On the other hand, there are disadvantages. The student will thrown into an alien environment which they never stepped in before. They will experience cultural shock and homesickness happens. It is more expensive to study in overseas compared to local universities. Besides, he might enrolled in an irrelevant degree course that has no value to his home country.

The Conclusion

In conclusion, I think that there are more advantages in studying overseas than studying locally at tertiary level. Education is an investment. If student’s finance support is not an issue, he or she should study abroad for first degree or postgraduate qualifications to enrich their educational experience.
